Dungeon Crawler Jam 2021: DAY 6

Build v 0.0.7 – 0.1.0

Some issues were ironed out through testing, testing and more testing.

You now spin around to face the enemy when they initiate combat. The images for hit, block, etc also now stay alive longer so you can get hit before the damage sprite shows up, so that looks a little better. Once the menus are in Japie will do the teleportation to different pre-made rooms. Luke troubleshooted some of the music issues.

Build 0.0.7:

Japie uploaded build 0.0.7 in which he fixed some bugs in the way enemies can trigger combat with you. That hopefully solves the issue of invisible enemies fighting you. Japie also added an escape lockout so now if you escape from combat you have 5 seconds grace before an enemy can trigger combat with you again. Japie also added a short animatic at the start of the game that tells a quick placeholder story of you looking for your cat with the devil offering to help if you call on him in the dungeon. Japie considered making it so that triggering the devil will give you an indication of where the end goal is (which may be the cat in the mean time).

Build 0.1.0

Japie fixed a lot of bugs and polished a bit on the animatic. He also fixed the movement errors that take you off the grid and added a ladder model as the start indicator in the dungeon – Leanri’s teleporter will be the end point.

Development

Leanri worked on enemy animations to ensure none are stuck on idle mode. She also worked on the setup of the rooms.

Next Japie needs to add in a tutorial screen to show the player how to use the keys and the quicktime battle system and then needs to add in some dialogue inside the dungeon. At the moment you can trigger it by pressing the Y key. The idea is to have Luke say something about how creepy it is with all these monsters around like 10 steps into the dungeon. Currently we have been testing with one kind of monster at a time, but will make it such that random monsters populate the dungeon as well – will be an easy change to make and will I think add a lot of value as it is procedurally generated, we can make the dungeon a lot bigger which Japie will do as well.
