Dungeon Crawler Jam 2021: DAY 2

Narrative

The game will revolve around two siblings, Luke and Lorelai, who come across a gloomy Georgian mansion nestled deep in the local woodland while searching for their missing cat. Once they enter the house, they realise that it is no normal house as they find themselves battling dark shadows in the form of their deepest fears.

[Post-Game Jam Edit: The story was simplified to revolve solely around Luke searching for his cat due to time constraints.]

Development

Japie and Leanri have developed walls and floors in a procedurally generated map. Leanri has also sourced some textures for the walls which makes it feel like we are actually making a real game.

Art

Lance made strides in creating a logo for the game and conceptualising the main characters. Meet Luke, Lorelai and their devil friend. Luke’s initial design was more cutesy but through iterations the design of the duo became more sinister to suit the feel of the game.

Figuring out the animations

We all contemplated the best way to get the art into the game. Lance is using Procreate on his iPad to draw so we had to find the easiest way to get them into Unity without going from Procreate to Illustrator to Spine to Unity. Luckily Leanri managed to make use of an exported GIF to import it into Unity. See the video here.

Music

Luke has worked on theme / menu music so long. This truly sets the feel of the game
